Hallo, I'm Alice. I'm originally from Australia and I have just moved to Berlin with my husband.
My biggest motivation to be a pet sitter is simply to spend time with animals. I have had pets most of my life, (I grew up with a Labrador/retriever cross, several cats and several birds) however as I haven't been in my home country permanently for some time, I have been unable to get a pet myself. I miss the companionship and fun that animals bring to life, I love getting to know the different personalities of different animals (dogs and cats mainly...such quirky little beings they are) and any opportunity to spend time with and care for animals adds a spark to my day.
Pet sitting/dog walking is a great way for me to share my love for animals while being a responsible human (knowing I can't currently commit long term to pet ownership)! Additionally, walking and hanging out with doggos in particular is a great way to spend time outside and explore.
I have previously done many hours of house and pet sitting, dog walking and general animal care. I find such joy in being around animals and I miss it as a part of my daily life.
My most recent experiences include : Staying in house with a chocolate high needs labrador (pictured) for 2 weeks of walking, feeding, bones and cuddles. Unfortunately, Tilly was recovering from an injured leg so fetch and other entertainment were limited. This also meant administering medicine on a daily basis to assist her recovery. Tilly missed her family very much when they were away, so extra effort was required to comfort her with limited options for activities due to her injury.
Other friends include regular walks of Mogg the Blue Heeler, lots of ball throwing required for a dog with lots of energy.
Walking my housemates incredibly anxious elderly staffy who had such a big heart.
Walking two very inquisitive and adventurous beagles (pictured) as needed, this was a sporadic request rather than a continuous regular one.
House sitting and looking after Kevin the black cat (pictured) who used to join me for lunch but insist on constantly going in and out of doors. Also in this house was small doggo Jazz, who was incredibly anxious without her mum and required lots of comforts.
House sitting and caring for Billy the cat (pictured), one of my favourite cats, with a bit of a temper, but a softie at heart.
How long your dog needs to be walked or how long a home visit needs to be is guided by the owner. Recognising that each animal is unique and will have different requirements I am happy to collaborate on what the service might look like or involve for your pet.
Alongside my pet love, I work as a trauma-informed yoga, meditation and mindfulness teacher and community support worker. I have flexible working hours and love to do a variety of activities from week to week. I am (slowly) learning German, however, ich verstehe keine Deutsch so far.
I'd love to hear from you.
Alice was very good with our dog. She researched a bunch of things that might help an anxious dog and shared them with me. She was already prepared with tricks that could keep Wanda distracted. Our dog is not ready yet for a sitter but when she is, we’d definitely call Alice again.
Alice is great! Tupac liked her really fast and he seems happy and chilled in the evening after daycare :) she’s also reliable and super on time! Happy to work with her!
