Merve

My name is Merve. I have come to Berlin from Turkey for a postgraduate program. I am looking for an extra job to afford my life here, and this job offers me more than money.

In Turkey all cats and dogs can freely live on the streets, they can come and sit on your lap or table when you are at a cafe or in a park. If you are living on a ground floor and open the balcony, they can enter and take a glance at your house.

I had lived on a ground floor for 8 years, and I took care of the cats and dogs in my neighboorhood during that time of period. For the time I am not allowed to pet inside of a house, I bought foods for them.

I was walking to my last job in Turkey and there were three dogs that accompanied me every single morning. At that moment I realized that this was the job I was seeking for since I enjoy walking and I love animals, both of them combined would be nothing short of a dream.

Now I have been living in Berlin for almost two months, and the only thing that makes me sad is that I don’t see cats and dogs in the streets. Because I used to see them everywhere. Therefore, this job will also make me happy in this way.
